Can I carry Barbolight batteries when travelling on a plane?
21 / may / 2009
You can safely carry your Barbolight batteries when travelling on a plane both in your checked-in baggage and in your hand baggage, as they meet all the requirements set by the TSA (Transport Security Administration) of the U.S.A. Here are some of the aspects that must be taken into account:
- Batteries can be transported in the cargo hold, provided that they are placed inside their devices and that these devices cannot be accidentally turned on. In the case of Barbolight flashlights, just loosen the cap until it doesn’t make contact. No loose spare batteries can be transported in the cargo hold.
- Batteries can also be transported in the cabin if they are placed inside their devices or as loose spare batteries, but taking into account the limitations of the following point.
- The TSA has set a limit of up to 8 grams of equivalent lithium content (ELC) for any amount of batteries Li-ION (about 100 watts-hour). Each Barbolight 18650 battery has a 0.67 gr. ELC and each CR123 primary battery has a 0.38 gr. ELC. Therefore, there is no problem to transport batteries in the cabin.
